Lee Chern brings a rare combination of high-level structural engineering expertise and over two decades of global mathematics leadership to Highland Academy. Since joining our faculty in 2021, he has served as our Lead Teacher for the University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests, where he personally designs the training modules that have led our students to numerous global awards.

Highland Academy Leadership (2021–Present)

• Waterloo Contest Architect: Since 2021, Lee has spearheaded the academy's competition department, creating specialized strategies for the Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, and Euclid tiers.

• Award-Winning Mentorship: Under his guidance, Highland Academy students have consistently secured Certificates of Distinction and School Champion Medals, ranking among the top competitors worldwide.

• Advanced Problem-Solving: He transforms standard curriculum into competitive-grade logic, ensuring students are prepared for the "Full-Solution" rigor of the Hypatia and Euclid exams.

Specialized Competition & Curriculum Training

Lee’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the practical application of complex logic, stemming from his years as a Project Manager for the seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge. He specializes in:

• Global Competition Mastery: Former coach for the South East Asian Mathematics Competition, bringing international tactics to Highland Academy’s math team.

• Top-Tier Curriculum: Expert delivery of AP Calculus, IB DP Further Mathematics, and IGCSE Additional Mathematics.

• Physics Integration: Bridging the gap between theoretical math and physical mechanics through his experience as an IB Physics instructor.
